Pauline Baynes Lord of the Rings Box Set with Slipcase
This is a once in a lifetime chance to own a 1964 Pauline Baynes box set including slipcase. The Pauline Baynes Lord of the Rings Box Set was produced in 1964 with 13, 10, 10 impressions from 1963. This was a special (and first) limited edition set and only 1000 were ever made. There may be only half a dozen of this box set, in this condition, remaining in the world.
The slipcase (included with this purchase) was designed by Pauline Baynes. Tolkien thought she was the only one capable of capturing his vision of Middle Earth.
The slipcases (in general) did not age very well, with this specific one being an exception. Just like dust jackets for other books, a slipcase can hold a lot of the value for a box set such as this one. This slipcase has some minor fading in the color art, a small scar on binding side of the case, minor bumps and scuffs, and two small tears in the top and bottom corners (please see photos).
The books themselves are in near-fine condition with the interior pages and maps bordering on excellent condition. The bindings and boards are tight and flat. The books don’t appear to have been read.
The slipcase is in very good condition due to the minor tears (please review the images).
Please review the photos and please reach out if you have any questions. The set will be sold as-is and will be insured for the full amount. So you can rest assured that you will receive exactly what you see in this posting or the insurance will cover it.
